Sophie, our Pug

Sophie, our PugTo view more pictures of Sophie click this link.

Sophie came to us from out of the blue...  I guess you would say she was unplanned.  We had just gotten Jag, our Bengal kitten (at the time...) and we hadn't discussed getting anther dog.  However Sophie needed a new home and we couldn't say no.  At the time I didn't know it, but she had us under her control from the first second.  It was only about 20 minutes after we got her home that I noticed how she was already following us from room to room and always wanted to be around us.  She has never changed.

There is a couple of things that no one ever seems to tell people about pugs.  Things that I certainly didn't know and things that I think most people don't know.....  1) Pug's shed lots of fur!  Lots & lots & lots & lots!  It seems to me like they could almost shoot it like little fur missiles getting it everywhere.  2) Pug's are gassy.  Sophie was a veryFormerly a dangerous position small puppy and soooo cute but when she passed gas, and she was very gassy, that small package could clear a room. The good news on this one is that once on the raw diet the gassiness goes away, almost instantly.  I think it is the grain and just one of the signs of the digestive problems we give them when we choose to feed such foods.  The last thing and one that is more commonly know is that pugs are one of the oldest breeds of pedigree dogs.  They are descended from mastiffs about 500 years ago.  Pugs may be small now but in their minds their all still mastiff's.  Sophie is a very dominant dog and also prefers the company of bigger dogs to smaller ones.  If there's one last thing I would say about what is not commonly known about Pugs but should be is their approximate natural size, 14 to 18 lb., they are lap dogs.  Lots of pugs are 20 lb. or more and that is sadly unhealthy for them.  That said, every animal is an individual and the ideal weight of the pug is individual to that pug.

Sophie loves children.  One of her greatest delights is running circles around a 3 year old who is screeching with delight.  The sound sets her off to want to run and play with the toddler.  If she even sees a young child she will start running around them, they don't have to do anything.  Sophie is also just as likely to play a frantic running round in circle game with anyone that  want to chase and run no matter the age.  She is very energetic.

Sophie, the Mountian Goat PugI am not sure if it is because she has Jag for a brother or because she may have had a mountain goat for a relative.....  But Sophie also loves to climb.  She will get on top of any desk, table, picnic table, tops of plush chairs, things like that.  I often find her resting on the top of our Lazy Boy recliner chair.  Her other favorite activities include laser pen chase and tug of war.

We may not have known that we were going to get Sophie when we got her, but were thankful that she came to live with us.  She is a blessing and has showered us with love everyday that she has been in our family. To share your life with a pug is wonderful..
